Earn PayPal cash in South Africa by playing mini games

PayPal is in Halo Mini's South African catalog as $1, $2, $3 and $5 rewards, paid in US dollars to your PayPal account. Getting PayPal money out in South Africa comes with its own admin, so this page covers the part most reward apps leave out: how the dollars get from PayPal into your rand bank account, what FNB charges, and how long it takes.

How the PayPal payout works in South Africa

PayPal rewards go out through Tremendous, our payout partner, so claiming is a two-step job. First, redeem the reward in the Store and enter your cellphone number as your contact. Second, open the My Rewards tab, tap Redeem Now next to the order, and enter your PayPal email on the Tremendous page. The button stays there until you use it, so if you miss it the first time, nothing is lost.

Most PayPal rewards land within minutes of tapping Redeem Now. Now and then it takes up to 24 hours. If nothing has come through after 24 hours, contact support with the reward name and the date you redeemed, and we will trace it. If a payout fails on our side, your points come back automatically.

Halo Mini never asks for your PayPal password or a one-time code (OTP). All we need is the email address on your PayPal account.

Getting PayPal money into a South African bank account

In South Africa, PayPal withdrawals run through First National Bank (FNB). You link your PayPal account from an FNB Online Banking profile, enter the amount you want to withdraw in US dollars, and FNB converts it to rand and pays it into your bank account. You do not have to bank with FNB. PayPal's help page says non-FNB customers can register a free FNB Online Banking profile and link any South African bank account, once they have sent their FICA documents to FNB.

PayPal itself charges nothing for the withdrawal. FNB charges its own tiered fee, a maximum of 1.51% of the amount according to FNB's PayPal page. On timing, PayPal says the money reaches an FNB account within three to five business days, while FNB's page says it is immediate for FNB accounts and up to three business days for other banks. You see the exchange rate on screen before you confirm.

FNB's fee is a percentage, so there is no threshold to wait for. Still, one withdrawal covering a few Halo Mini rewards is less admin than a string of small ones.

  • PayPal withdrawal fee: none, as long as no currency conversion happens on PayPal's side
  • FNB fee: tiered, maximum 1.51% of the amount
  • Timing: PayPal quotes 3 to 5 business days; FNB says immediate for FNB accounts and up to 3 business days for other banks
  • What you need: an FNB Online Banking profile (free, non-FNB customers too) linked to your PayPal account

Things to watch out for

Ignore anyone on Telegram or WhatsApp offering to swap your PayPal balance for cash or an instant EFT. Those offers are a well-known scam and players have lost money to them. Withdraw through FNB's PayPal service instead.

Your PayPal account must be able to receive money. If PayPal asks you to confirm your identity or link a bank before you can withdraw, or FNB asks for FICA documents, that is their requirement, not ours. Halo Mini does not ask for any ID.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a PayPal reward in Halo Mini?

In South Africa the PayPal rewards are $1, $2, $3 and $5. The bigger ones take more points, and the progress bar in the Store shows how far you are from each one.

Is the PayPal reward paid in rand?

No, in US dollars. FNB converts it to rand when you withdraw, at the exchange rate shown before you confirm, and takes its tiered fee of up to 1.51%.

My PayPal order says completed but no money has come through. Why?

PayPal rewards need a second step. Open My Rewards, tap Redeem Now next to the order, and enter your PayPal email on the Tremendous page. The money goes out after that, usually within minutes.

Do I need an FNB account to withdraw?

No. You need an FNB Online Banking profile, which is free even if you bank elsewhere, and through it you can link any South African bank account to PayPal.

Do I need to verify my ID to cash out to PayPal?

Not with Halo Mini. All we need is your PayPal email. PayPal may want to verify your account before you can withdraw to a bank, and FNB asks non-FNB customers for FICA documents when they register a profile. That part is between you and them.

How much can I earn?

It depends on how much you play and how many reward boxes you open. Halo Mini does not promise fixed earnings, and playing is always free.
