Frequently asked questions
Is the MTN reward real?
Yes — MTN is part of the live reward catalog in Ghana, and real players redeem it every day. We never ask you to pay to redeem.
How fast does the MTN reward arrive?
Rewards are delivered digitally after you redeem — most arrive within minutes, though some can take a little longer.
How much can I earn?
It depends on how much you play and how many reward boxes you open. Halo Mini doesn't promise fixed earnings — but playing is always free.
Do I have to pay or deposit anything?
No. Halo Mini is free to download, free to play and free to redeem. No purchase is ever required.
Can I get MTN airtime in Ghana without paying cash?
Yes. On Halo Mini you collect points from mini games and short video ads, then redeem MTN airtime of GHS 2, 5, 10 or 20, with no deposit needed. Earnings are not fixed. MTN's own options are not free money: Xtra Time (*506#) is a loan you repay with a 10% fee, and MTN Rewards points on *550#, option 7, come from your normal MTN usage and can be redeemed for airtime.
How do I borrow airtime on MTN Ghana?
Dial *506#, select 1 (Xtra Time) and pick an amount. MTN charges a 10% service fee on every amount borrowed, and you pay it back later. It is a loan, not free airtime. To borrow data instead, dial *506# and choose option 4 (Xtrabyte). If you would rather not borrow, Halo Mini lets you redeem MTN airtime in GHS 2, 5, 10 or 20 with points from mini games, with no purchase.
How to get MTN airtime on Halo Mini
Halo Mini is a free rewards app. You play short mini games and watch short video ads to collect points. You can then redeem them for MTN airtime of GHS 2, 5, 10 or 20. No purchase or deposit is needed, and Halo Mini does not promise fixed earnings. Halo Mini is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by MTN.
The airtime is sent straight to the phone number you enter when you redeem. In the 30 days to 25 September 2026, the median time from redeeming to delivery for MTN was under a minute.
Before you confirm, check the number digit by digit and make sure MTN is the network you picked. If the number has moved to another network, pick the network it uses now. Telecel and AT airtime are also in the catalog.
MTN's own ways to get airtime without cash
MTN Ghana has a few official options for when your credit runs out. None of them is free money. Borrowed airtime is a loan with a fee, and reward points come from your normal MTN usage. Here is what MTN's own pages say.
Borrowing helps in an emergency. Just plan to repay the amount you borrowed plus the 10% fee.
- Xtra Time (borrow airtime): dial *506#, select 1 (Xtra Time) and pick an amount. MTN charges a 10% service fee on every amount borrowed, and you pay it back later.
- Xtrabyte (borrow data): dial *506#, choose option 4, Request a data advance, then pick a bundle. The same 10% commission applies.
- MTN Rewards: dial *550# and choose option 7 to check, redeem or transfer your points. You earn points from calls, texts, browsing and MoMo, and you can redeem them for airtime or data. There is no fee to join.
- Birthday and anniversary bonus: MTN gives free on-net call time and SMS on your birthday and on 5-year network milestones. No subscription is needed, and MTN sends a text with the exact offer. This is call time, not airtime credit.
- Pay4me: out of airtime and need to call? Dial 154 followed by the number, with no spaces. The person you call pays for the call.

Avoid fake free-airtime offers
Be careful with 'free airtime' messages on WhatsApp, SMS or social media. Never give anyone your MoMo PIN or a code sent to your phone. MTN tells customers never to share their MoMo PIN with anyone and not to engage with calls from unknown numbers about their wallet.
MTN says its official customer service number is 0244300000. To report a fake promotion, dial *170#, choose 6 (My Wallet), then 4 (Report Fraud), and pick the type of fraud. You can also email mmfraudteam.GH@mtn.com.
Halo Mini never needs a purchase or deposit. If anyone asks you to pay first to unlock 'free' airtime, walk away.
